Gouves is located 18km east of Heraklion city and 15km of Heraklion International Airport. Gouves beach is just 2,5 km away. Gouves is a large area, including the popular resort of Kato Gouves and the traditional village of Ano Gouves , built next to the low Ederis mountain at a height of just over 300 meters, offering a magnificent view. Gouves is neither a village nor a town exactly. Gouves is a residential area that actually developed due to tourism. There is a main road that starts from the old National Highway of Heraklion – Hersonissos and goes down to the coastal road. To the left and right of this road there are hotels and apartments in a large area between fields. Hotels and apartments also exist above the old highway, but there you can find much less. In other words, it is a sparsely populated area that largely retains its former rural character.
